FANTASY LEAGUE

Welcome, friends! The best time of the year has finally returned: the new season of the Great British Baking Show (or the Great British Bake Off for non-Americans). After getting my ass kicked last season, I overthrew our commissioner and thought of a different structure in which I'm also sure to get my ass kicked.

For those who are new to the show, it airs first on Tuesdays in the UK (Channel4) and a few days later on Fridays in the US (Netflix).

STRUCTURE

This league is non-drafted, meaning each participant gets to choose their own team of bakers, regardless of who your competitors choose.

Before the start of the season, each player will choose six bakers to make up your team. Your team will gain and lose points each week based on their baking prowess and the judges' decisions.

A form will be sent at the time of the cast announcement for you to choose your team. Make your selection before the first episode airs (a Tuesday TBD in the UK!!)

Team Size

Episodes 1 - 6 (or until six bakers remain on the show): each team has six available slots for bakers.

Not every slot needs to have a baker in it, since some of your bakers might have already been eliminated. See more about this below in the CHIPS section.

Once there are six bakers remaining, you will RE-SELECT your team from the bakers still in the competition.

Episodes 7 - 10 (or once six bakers are left): each team has three available slots for bakers.

Points

Each week, the bakers on your team will earn or lose points based on how well they do in the episode. Your score is the tally of how your team of bakers performed.

Point values are as follows:

CHIPS

There are four CHIPS that can each be used once throughout the season. Think of them as power-ups for your team.

Choose when and how you play them wisely. You’ll have to decide before the episodes air. The chips are as follows:

Double Batch: You have a baker you believe in. Double the positive points they earn this week.

Substitution: Your team is flailing, but you still have faith in them. For THIS WEEK ONLY, substitute any bakers you don’t want with ones you do. Your roster reverts to the original lineup the following week.

From Scratch: Your team is flailing, and you can’t do it anymore. Create a new team with any bakers remaining in the competition. This will be your team moving forward.

Soggy Bottom: One of your bakers may have trouble this week. Select this chip, and that baker will earn zero points this week. This will negate any negative points they may earn, but it will also negate any potential positive points.

DEADLINES & CHANGES

TUESDAY: Lineups and chip selections close at 11 AM PT on Tuesdays - one hour before the new episode airs in the UK. If you do not send a response, your roster will be unchanged.

FRIDAY: Points are assigned and scores are tallied once the episode airs in the US.

SATURDAY: An email is sent to the league with a weekly recap and the next week’s form for roster changes and chip placement.
